The 2026 Sustainability Census
The ICRS is supporting the 2026 Sustainability Census, a global survey led by Acre in partnership with SLR Consulting. The Sustainability Census is the benchmark survey for the sustainability profession.
What is the Census?
The 2026 Sustainability Census is a global survey of sustainability professionals, led by Acre in partnership with SLR Consulting. It captures robust, practitioner-led data on roles, skills, priorities, challenges, and trends across the sustainability profession. It is widely regarded as the most credible and comprehensive dataset of its kind, used by organisations, consultancies, and practitioners to benchmark and plan.
Why does it matter this year?
The sustainability agenda is under real pressure. Regulation is tightening in some regions, stalling in others, and organisations are being asked to deliver more impact with fewer resources. At the same time, sustainability roles are maturing, diversifying, and professionalising. The 2026 Census matters because it provides hard evidence of how the profession is responding globally, where capability gaps exist, and how priorities differ by region. Expanding participation beyond the UK, Europe, and the US into Africa, Asia, and Latin America is critical to ensuring the data reflect the true global picture.
Who can take part?
The census is for sustainability professionals at all levels, from specialists and managers to heads of functions and senior leaders, across all sectors and geographies. It is also designed to support employers, policymakers, advisors, and educators who rely on accurate data to inform workforce planning, strategy, and investment. Participation is free and open to the market..
